Li-Ling Huang’s biography

 

Li-Ling HUANG was born in Taipei, Taiwan. Her deep interest in and passion for music stem from an early age and, driven by a serious sense of artistic perfection, she has now become an accomplished music professional. Li-Ling graduated from the National Taiwan University of Arts, majoring in Chinese zither: Guzheng, and ancient Chinese zither: Guqin. After graduation, she toured Japen with a Chinese music ensemble. She also began teaching these instruments at the Shi-jian Technical College.

LI-Ling came to Belgium in 1987 to embark on studies in carillon-playing at the Royal Carillon School ‘Jef Denyn’ Mechelen and gratuated in 1995 along with her husband, Hua XIA, who both became the first Chinese musicians to have obtained diplomas from carillon school. During her studies in Belgium, Li-Ling along with Hua XIA and Wei-ling FANG, formed the ‘Ya Tang’ Chinese Ensemble which performed throughout Europe actively. A recording of Li-Ling and Hua’s Chinese music performance had been included in a CD titled, ‘ Planet of Flanders’ released by the Belgiun government. In addrition, Li-Ling’s zither performance had also been broadcast by TV and Radio in Belgium and the Netherland. Since 2013 li-ling has together with Osama Abdulrasol and Hannelore De Vaere formed a music ensemble ‘Ceurdas’-a Harp ensemble fresent harp culture from europe arabic and China. In addition they work together with the Lute ensemble ‘Luthomania’ to recorded a CD ‘Peregrina’and have been giving concert in Bozar.

Li-Ling’s carillon-playing has also taken her to several countries for carillon concerts, including Belgium, the Netherland, Germany, France, and the USA. She is the co-author of a thesis titled, ‘Chinese bronze (music) instruments’.
